Mariinsky Theatre

The Mariinsky Theater, named in honor of Maria Feodorvna, Russian Emperor Alexander II's wife, was built by architect Cavos in 1859-1860. The building was constructed on what is now called Teatralnaya Square, and since then this place was considered to be the center of the cultural life of St.Petersburg. The hall of the theater is decorated with splendid three-circled chandelier and vivid pafond, beautiful curtain, gilded installations and statues. If you want to see the classic Russian ballet in St.Petersburg, Mariinsky theater is the place to go.
